Perch

Perch

Yesterday, we went perch fishing again.  We had three holes and poles, each, sat up in front of our chairs.  The fishing was so intense, there were times, we didn't have any of our poles in the water.  We kept 108 perch and packaged them up for fish tacos...yum.

All our fish in a 7 gal pail.

Today, fishing was slow and we came home with 45 perch.  Looks like high pressure is moving in.

Red Hot

Red Hot

Red Hot fishing, up here, in North Idaho.  We had three poles, each, and couldn't keep them in the water.  We caught 44 perch, one-after-another, during a blizzard.  Thanks to our ice suits, we were able to stay warm.

Castle

Castle

We went back to check out the ice structure and catch supper.  We finally,  got into the perch.  We came home with 15 fish.   Not bad for an afternoon of fishing.

The ice structure became a castle, with its own horse.  They blocked off the areas where they removed the ice.

Blustery

Blustery

Very, blustery day.  Thankfully, for my ice suit, I was able to stay warm.  Fishing was slow, we kept 12 to finish out a load for a batch of fish sausage.  Someone, else had his ice shelter up.

On the other side of the lake, we seen an ice wall.

We went over to investigate and seen this:  they had used chain saws to make the bricks.

As we were leaving,  three guys, from BC had gotten out of their truck with chain saws in hand.  They were going to finish the fort.  They were going to do a "polar plunge," into the open hole...except for one said he wasn't.

Back

Back

We went back, to burbot fish, this afternoon.  They seemed a little smaller, but we came home with 8 more.  Our neighbor, Tom, came out to fish with us.

Woo Hoo

Woo Hoo

Today, burbot (ling) fishing opens up in Idaho.  There's a limited 6 fish (12 between the two of us).  We started fishing at 3:30 pm and ended at 6 pm.  We didn't catch our limit but had fun. Tom, caught a nice trout also.  We were bouncing lures, tipped with meat, off the bottom in about 30 - 40 feet of water.  The burbot are about 12" long, still lots of fun.
